View of the opposite end of the prison dungeon. Here Kantaryn’s decease developed.
“There is nothing so deadly for an energetic warrior hungry for action than to be confined in a dungeon for weeks on end without being able to do anything. And the place was horribly depressing. It was only three paces wide and seven long. Leading to the storage room next to it was a thick plank door two steps up at one end of the room. It was so strong that we could not break through it no matter how much we tried. Then there were three small holes placed just a little over the height of a man, one at the other end of the room and the other two in the wall opposite the door. Since they were two feet high and a foot wide, we might barely have squeezed out through them had they not been securely covered from outside. The placement of the peepholes told us that the dungeon was in a corner of the castle.” |
